PROJECTS
Introduction
TYEGD implements both ongoing and completed projects that address real community needs across gender equality, youth empowerment, agriculture, and environmental sustainability, combining capacity building, service delivery, and community engagement to deliver practical, scalable, and sustainable solutions that strengthen livelihoods and systems across multiple regions.
Impact Summary
TYEGD has achieved measurable impact by reaching over 15,500 farmers with improved agricultural practices, expanding access to SRHR and life skills for more than 1,300 adolescents, integrating gender programs in 57+ schools, and economically empowering over 870 women, demonstrating its ability to deliver sustainable, community-driven development outcomes across Tanzania.
CURRENT PROJECTS
Technical Support for Strengthening Digital Climate‑Informed Advisory Services and Scaling Climate‑Resilient Seeds (2025–2026)
This study project was implemented under the Global Center on Adaptation’s (GCA) support to the World Bank‑funded Tanzania Food Systems Resilience Program (T‑FSRP), with Weather Impact as the lead implementer, in collaboration with TARI and Esoko. The study aimed to strengthen Digital Climate Advisory Solutions (DCAS) for smallholder farmers and to assess seed systems to support the scaling of climate‑resilient seeds by addressing climate and environmental vulnerabilities. TYEGD was responsible for coordinating and conducting field‑level data collection across Mara, Songwe, Mbeya, Dodoma, and Arusha Regions, contributing critical local evidence to inform climate adaptation strategies and the improvement of digital advisory services.
Wanawake na Kahawa (Women in Coffee) Project (2024–2025)
Implemented with support from Women Win (FREE Grow funding), this project empowers 500 smallholder coffee farmers, especially women and girls in Tarime District (Nyanungu Ward). It promotes gender equality, strengthens women’s leadership in the coffee value chain, and builds climate resilience through training on shade-grown coffee, agroforestry, organic farming, improved coffee varieties, and the use of TMA climate information for early warning and better farming decisions.
COMPLETED PROJECTS
Kilimo Thabiti Project (2024–2025)
The Kilimo Thabiti Project (2024–2025) was funded by the Fund for Innovation in Development (FID) and was designed to improve cassava and maize production in the Mara Region, specifically in Bunda DC, Bunda TC, and Butiama District. The project integrated agro‑weather information with Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) to support farmers in making climate‑informed decisions. Through the use of digital weather advisory tools and practical agronomy training, the initiative strengthened farmers’ productivity and resilience to climate variability.
Mtoto Kwanza Project (2023)
In partnership with AICT Mara and TECDEN, this project increased community awareness of child protection, nutrition, and early childhood development (ECD). It empowered caregivers and leaders to demand better services for children and promoted safe and supportive environments for early learning.
Zijue Fursa Youth Conferences (2022)
TYEGD partnered with SISI Tanzania to conduct youth conferences aimed at helping young people understand economic opportunities linked to the Tanzania to Uganda crude oil pipeline project. The events equipped youth with information, guidance, and pathways to employment and entrepreneurship.
African Cassava Agronomy Initiative – ACAI (2020–2023)
The African Cassava Agronomy Initiative (ACAI) was implemented by TYEGD in partnership with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) from 2020 to 2023, with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, to improve cassava productivity in the Mara Region through the adoption of appropriate, affordable, and climate‑smart technologies. The project combined practical agronomy training, demonstration plots, and digital decision‑support tools to strengthen farmers’ capacity to apply modern cassava production practices while enhancing extension service delivery. Working across the cassava value chain with smallholder farmers, extension officers, processors, and youth groups, ACAI promoted sustainable farming systems, improved yields, and better-quality produce, ultimately reaching over 15,500 farmers and contributing to increased resilience and long‑term productivity of cassava-based livelihoods.
Kijana Tuongee Project (2017–2019)
A youth-led initiative that provided young people with leadership skills, knowledge on human rights, responsibilities, and community development. Its aim was to empower youth voices and strengthen their ability to contribute positively to their communities.
Elimisha Project (2015–2016)
This project promoted gender equality and safety in primary and secondary schools. It raised awareness on child protection and encouraged communities to play an active role in protecting youth and promoting equitable learning environments.
